The purpose of our organization will be to increase the canopy of
Miami Dade County by doing plant drives and landscaping the yards of
residents. In this process we can create volunteer opportunities that
foster environmental awareness and create a spirit of unity among the
residents and volunteer groups from diverse backgrounds.
Our plant drives will be events in which we hand out plants and trees to all residents. Our second event structure will be assisting residents in the planting of the donated plants and trees in their yards with the help of volunteer groups. We strive to create volunteer groups by reaching out to the different student groups located at the local universities.
Our third activity goal will be to host educational lecture series on gardening techniques and landscape designs that are not destructive to our environment. For example, a commonly used landscape technique is “tree topping” in south Florida and it is extremely damaging to trees and the public is not aware of it effects on trees and the environment.
